Puxian, located in the southwest of Shanxi Province, is part of Linfen City. It covers an area of 1,510.61 square kilometers. The county has a long history, dating back over 12,000 years as evidenced by the discovery of the Longwangmiao Microlithic Site in Xueguan Town. Legend has it that during the Tang Yao period, Yao’s teacher, Pu Yizi, once lived in seclusion here, giving the county its name.​
The county has a diverse topography, with the eastern part being higher and the western part lower. It features mountains, plateaus, ridges, and valleys. Puxian has a continental monsoon climate with distinct seasons.​
Puxian is rich in resources. Mineral resources include coal, iron ore, bauxite, and more, with coal reserves of about 10.873 billion tons. Its plant resources are also abundant. Among the local specialties are fruits like apples and red dates, and nuts such as walnuts.​

Puxian apples are well – known for their bright color, crispy texture, and sweet taste. They are full of juice and rich in vitamins, making them popular among consumers. Red dates here have a deep red color, a chewy texture, and a sweet flavor. They are often used in traditional Chinese medicine and cooking. Walnuts from Puxian have plump kernels, a rich, earthy taste, and are highly nutritious, containing healthy fats and proteins.​
